Crafting Tips

It’s hard to say what exactly is behind good crafting.  Most of the tips included in this section are people’s opinions.  There are hardly any cold hard facts included because SE has never come out and said, “This is how you do it.”  So, these are from recorded experiences.  Take them all with a grain of salt.

Understanding Elemental Days

Vanadiel is all about the elements.  Each day has it’s own Element attached to it.  The order in which they appear are:

Firesday > Earthsday > Watersday > Windsday > Iceday > Lightningday > Lightsday > Darksday > Firesday

The cycle progresses like this over and over again.  Each element has it’s weakness – the opposing element.  So, the way it works is this:

Water quenches Fire

Fire melts Ice

Ice blocks Wind

Wind tears away Earth

Earth absorbs Lightning

Lightning Boils Water

Light and Dark oppose each other

 Water > Fire > Ice > Wind > Earth > Lightning > Water

Light >< Dark

Each element also relates to status ailments:

Fire = Disease

Ice = Bind

Wind = Silence

Earth = Paralysis

Lightning = Stun

Water = Poison

Light = Charm

Dark = Blind, Curse and Sleep

There are different crystals for each element.  These have their own colors.

Red = Fire Day – Fire Crystal

Yellow = Earth Day – Earth Crystal
Blue = Waters Day – Water Crystal

Green = Winds Day – Wind Crystal

Aqua = Ice Day – Ice Crystal

Purple = Lightning Day – Lightning Crystal

White = Light Day – Light Crystal

Grey – Darks Day – Dark Crystal

Weather also has it’s own elements:

Wind/Heavy Winds = Wind

Darkness/Solar Eclipse = Dark

Sandstorm/Heavy Sandstorm = Earth

Heat/Heatwave = Fire

Snow/Icestorm = Ice

Aurora/Midnight Sun = Light

Thunderstorm/Heavy Thunderstorm = Lightning

Rain/Heavy Downpour = Water

People believe that the stars play an important role in crafting as well.  Each element has it’s own constellation that is located in a different area of the sky.  There are NPCs in the different towns that will show a constellation map to prove this theory.  People believe that if you craft in a certain direction with a certain crystal, it will improve your chances of either skilling up, synthing the item or HQing the item.  For example, if I needed to craft something using a Dark Crystal, and I were to face North, I would have a better chance to synth that item.

Dark = North – Odin

Fire = Northwest – Ifrit

Water = West – Leviathan

Lightning = Southwest – Ramuh

Earth = South – Titan

Wind = Southeast – Garuda

Ice = East – Shiva

Light = Northeast– Alexander

Some think the Moon Phases also play a role in crafting.

Full Moon = Increased Success and Skillups

New Moon = Great Skillups and best day for HQs

Common knowledge for crafting:

If you synth on the day of your crystal you’ll receive a slight increase in your success rate and get average skillups.

 If you synth on Darksday or on the day your crystal is weak to you will double your skillup rate and get a better chance to HQ.

If you synth on just a normal day you will get average skillups.

It has been my experience that when skilling up, you usually don’t want to skillup on things above 5 skill levels as yourself.  The skillup rate seems to come slower and you have way more breaks, which means you are just throwing away your money.
